The ClanSport Masters is back!

The ClanSport Masters (CSM) kicked off to a slightly shaky start in August but concluded as one of the most successful Australian online gaming tournaments to date – sporting arguably the best grand final match of all time and come January, we’re doing it all again!

Monday 12th October 2009 – NetGameMedia Pty Ltd. today announced the much anticipated second instalment to the ClanSport Masters Series for Team Fortress 2. After the successful launch of Australia’s newest competitive online gaming tournament portal, ClanSport in August of this year, the next chapter in Australian competitive Team Fortress is set to begin in January 2010. Having set an initial goal of focusing on the acceleration and expansion of competitive online gaming competition in Australia, ClanSport spokesman Julian Healey mentioned that there are exciting times ahead for online gamers.

“ClanSport had a great start with the first tournament in August, and the outlook couldn’t be better as we welcome our friends at ozfortress back to the fold as an official community partner and sponsor of this next tournament. The Aussie Team Fortress community, one largely based at ozfortress, has been very supportive of us and I hope that we can launch well over the bar that the community has set for us.”

In keeping with the positive reactions from players and esports spectators alike, sponsors have also expressed their admiration of the event. FOOSH Australia, who now have a long track record of supporting Australian TF2 events, have committed to signing back on for the second ClanSport Masters tournament. Nick Petrovski, Spokesman for FOOSH Australia has stated that he’s been very happy with how the first tournament panned out. “The last tournament proved a real success for us, it's been really positive”.

The second tournament will be a step up from the first with an increase from 6 to 8 invited teams battling it out 6v6 in a double elimination, best-of-three-map format. Julian Healey expressed some concern over format and rule issues in the first tournament. “I openly admit that we had some issues with the rules and format in the first tournament. Fortunately we were able to adjust those kinks before things really got started. This time round we’ll be working very closely with top Australian teams and the wealth of experience that ozfortress bring to the table to ensure that the tournament is as competitive as it can be right from the get-go. Everyone loves to watch great matches and we need to be as flexible as possible in finding the right combination of rules and formats to suit not just the sponsors and media partners, but the gamers as well – after all, they’re the ones putting on the show!”

The tournament will begin January 3rd 2010 with LIVE coverage being provided by renowned Australian commentary network & gaming radio station, netGameRadio. Community partner and sponsor ozfortress will be providing key administration support for the tournament. Whilst sponsors and partners are still in the process of signing on, netGameRadio is already contributing a $500 cash prize for 1st place & FOOSH Australia have put up $300 cash for 2nd place. Spectator and tandem competition prizes will be announced closer to the start date.

Team invites to the 2nd ClanSport Masters tournament are expected to be sent out in early December.
