Don’t you ever wish you were born in an earlier time? Now I’ve played the Brutal Legend demo, my answer is, hell no! For without video gaming, Double Fine and EA might hath not brought such a brutal experience into thine living room!

Eddie Riggs is the star of the show, perhaps not literally in the opening cut scene, but from the second you hear Jack Blacks voice come shining through on the character, you know outrageous and hilarious things are in store for this particular manpixel!

Jack Black wishes he looked that awesome...(I know I do)

Eddie Riggs is seemingly killed in a horrific stage accident, but is mysteriously transported to another time and place where demons actually exist. It’s a fight for survival in this metal realm where the power of rock is finally realized. As if the giant axe wasn’t enough, power chords from your flying V shake the very earth beneath you, guitar solos unlock awesome stuff and lightning blasts forth from your headstock. All of which are really good things because those demons I mentioned aren’t all that friendly.

At first I was a little skeptical that the trailer, which could only be described as awesome, was going to be every ounce of humor the game had to offer. Oh how I was wrong. Even the profanity and violence filter prompts at the start had me laughing so loud I pooped a little.

The game is like an outrageous dream – it’s pure rock fantasy and it oozes fun from every demonic orifice. In the space of 30 minutes you’ve learnt the controls, gotten yourself two awesome weapons, mashed up 40 or so demon goons (and a few of those “sexy” demons from the trailer), teamed up with a hot chick, played a guitar solo, mowed down some baddies in your pimped hot rod ‘The Deuce’ and taken down a giant evil earthworm boss like it was the Rancor from Episode VI.

Brutal Legend is as fast paced as it is hilarious and if you’re not into metal, don’t sweat it, I think you’ll enjoy the games satirical vibe no matter what music you’re into. There is nothing serious about this game, aside from the serious RSI you’ll get from playing it all night. Brutal Legend is definitely right at the top of my ‘games to pwn’ list.

Give the demo a crack, if you love Tenacious D, Jack Black, the metal genre, or just casual easy to play action/adventure games, you won’t be disappointed.

Brutal Legend is set for release this month, the demo is available right now via Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network.

PS: The soundtrack ROCKS!
