Flash game of the week #4 - This Is The Only Level
Callum, 8-Apr-10 » There's sayings like less is more, and it's not what you got but how you use it. 'This Is The Only Level' makes effective use of this philosophy.
No snap reflexes or mind boggling multi tasking skills required, it just wants you to sit down and use your noggin. There may be only one level but there's a load of puzzles between you and the finish line.

There's no barrage of flashing colours, fast moving objects or upbeat dance tune. It's just the level, the elephant, and you. Your task is simple: Get the elephant from the entrance to the exit. Preferably do this without killing it, however there's no punishment for screwing up other than losing alot of time. Each time you face the level you'll be given one hint as to what the obstacle is. Though you might want to dwell on the hint for some time stay on your toes otherwise some of the puzzles will add 10 deaths in quick succession before you know what hit you.
Some of the puzzles are straight forward but others require a more open mind. You may need to think outside the box.
This Is The Only Level isn't a particularly addictive game, it doesn't even have a dead set horrible song to keep you coming back. But this game is like a social mousetrap, it's the sort of game you use as a talking point to spring upon unsuspecting friends and colleagues. Introduce it as an "By the way have you seen this? It's quite clever." You'll have the next 5-10 minutes free to laugh at them while they struggle with it. You'll probably only play it a couple of times yourself but it's a game that you won't forget easily.

However for those of you that have something you want to prove we're taking on speed runs. How fast can you complete The Only Level?
Triumph: 8:21:30 and 35 Deaths
Smithy: 5:15:20 and 23 Deaths
This time Smithy actually managed to claw his way to the top!
Provide screenshots of you smashing this score in this thread: http://www.netgameradio.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5149. You never know, you may be lucky enough to receive a little something (depending on reader enthusiasm and quantity of replies). Couldn't beat Smithy? Never mind, you can still post a picture of you beating Triumph and poke fun at him for being unable to find his car let alone his way through The Only Level.
Verdict:
Originality - 9/10- The concept is both clever and unique
Addictiveness - 4/10 - Unforgettable but barely replay able
Accessibility - 7/10 - It's confusing, but in the right way
