Supanova Perth ON NOW!

Sydney's Supanova was last weekend, but seeing as how I live in Perth, that didn't really matter to me. However, Perth has its very own Supanova on this weekend. The public has come out in droves to meet the stars, watch the anime, and buy all the manga they can sink their teeth into.
The Robinson Pavillion at the Claremont Showgrounds is the home for Perth's Supanova this year, with plenty being packed into the space. The Exhibitors range from your standard anime/scifi bookshops to gametraders to some stall with a curiously furry bent to it. Everywhere you go there is someone dressed up as their favorite anime character, making just walking the room an interesting experience. The stars that have been brought in are available to sign photos (which you have to purchase first) and include Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Lord of The Rings... google him), Jake Lloyd (Anakin from Star Wars Ep 1), as well as Gil Birmingham (Billy Black from Twilight), as well as a few others who I didn't really know (refer to the website for a more detailed description.)
As for the stuff that is actually going on, there are movies being run in the JB Hi Fi Seminar Theatre, Anime discussions by voice actors and such in the Supanova seminar area, a card game area, and a 3D theatre. Voice actors and just plain actors from movies and anime are scattered throughout the space willing to autograph things for you. WALAN also makes an appearance, although somewhat secondary to the convention part (you have to use a separate entrance and it is segregated from the rest of the hall, presumably for security reasons I assume.)
If you're into anime/manga or just want to go and see what the kid from Star Wars Episode 1 looks like 10 years after he was cute, go for it. It's not my cup of tea, but I'm sure there are those of you out there who are excited about dressing up as a man/girl anime character. The entry price of $25 is a bit on the hefty side, so if you're not a die hard anime fan, I might give this one a pass. Pictures follow.

The JB Hi Fi Superstars setup where you can get the autograph of the celebrities that have been brought in

There are various artists and voice actors around who are more than willing to sell you bits of their work as they make it.

Don't ask me why, but apparently there needs to be wrestling at a pop culture exhibition. AWF wrestling provides all the necessary muscled sweaty men in the ring.

There are plenty of booths available to get your manga or anime.

The Madman Entertainment Anime Theater is the home to the major cosplay competition, and definitely draws in the crowds.

Some take the cosplay a bit more seriously... to disastrous effects. Yes ladies he is in fact wearing a full spandex spiderman outfit.

As for the gaming side of the convention, WALAN is present to provide all the necessary components for a great lan, even if there aren't too many players when I visited.

Gametraders makes an appearance with the three main consoles, as well as a snes for all you retro junkies out there, but EB games, the sponsor of the event, apparently couldn't be bothered showing up. :(
Perth's Supanova is on today and tomorrow at the Claremont Showgrounds in the Robinson Pavillion from 10am till 6pm, with entry available through ticketmaster or at the door for $25. For more information, see http://www.supanova.com.au/.
