DICE VIP CounterStrike 1.6 National Cup

This weekend has seen Melbourne's CounterStrike 1.6 LAN scene erupt with the DICE VIP National Cup, just weeks after the Plan B1G CounterStrike Source Nationals. $2,500 in Prize Money was up for grabs in this 5v5 CounterStrike 1.6 Tournament, with teams flying in from across the nation to compete in group stages at MidCity Internet (where we saw the CS:S Nats held) and Semi-Finals and Grand Final played out in B1GLeague's Studio.
The draw included Victorian Teams; GUTS, BetterIn2005, v300, Fragzone, VHM, and KOA. From New South Wales; exile5, Quickstep, GHB, PnPoo.DT, and deathByclick. From Queensland; Outplayed Rookies, Qlimax, 750 Rebels, and Exodus.mix. And finally Tzunami flying in from South Australia.
4 Group stages kicked off on the Saturday, with the 4 teams in each group playing off against each other. Group A saw GUTS dominate the competition beating Tzunami (26-4), Exodus (27-3), and exile5 (16-6) securing them 3-0 and 9 points in the Group Stages, with exile5 also making it into the Quater Finals. Group B saw NSW team GHB achieve a 3-0 win in their Group Stages with some close matches against dBc (14-13), Fragzone (18-12), and Qlimax (17-13). Qlimax secured 2 wins to also make it through to Quater Finals. Group C played in the afternoon, with competition favourites v300 easily making it through along with VHM into the Quater Finals. Group D saw a major upset with low-seeded KOA Melbourne Team toppled both PnPoo (26-4) and 2005 (22-8), and PnPoo beating Outplayed (23-7) to secure both KOA and PnPoo a place in the Quater Finals.
Sunday morning launched into the Quater Finals at MCInternet with GUTS beating PnPoo.DT 2-1, VHM beating GHB 2-0, v300 easily beating Qlimax 2-0, and KOA knocking exile5 out of competition 2-0.
Teams then moved into the B1GLeague Studio for an action packed Semi-Finals with GUTS facing off against VHM, in a Single Elimination Best of Three showdown. First Map was de_inferno with GUTS takin git over VHM 16-9, finally securing their position in the grand final on CS fav de_dust2 16-3. Tournament favourites v300 were now to play against tournament underdogs KOA in an incredible couple of games. The map was de_tuscan and although half of KOA had never even played the map they still managed to get 13 rounds against v300's 16 rounds, a very close map. The next map was de_nuke and although v300 won it 16-6, KOA still managed to get most of their points while KOA was sitting on 15. The tension was incredible, and their passion inspiring.

Grand Final's took place late in the afternoon as the light outside slowly faded, GUTS and v300 both from Melbourne finally had a chance to play against each other. The studio audience had bets running, and it was soon easy to see why v300 was the favourite. v300 cleaned up on both de_dust2 16-5, and de_train 16-8 to take home First Place. $2,500 in cash and the DICE CS1.6 Nats Cup.

Overall an incredible couple of days proving that the CounterStrike 1.6 Community is still alive and well and passionate about their game. Thanks to beedee and his DICE VIP Team for organising such a phenomenal event in a short space of time. MCInternet for hosting the stages that they did. Woodz and B1GLeague for producing the semi-finals and Grand Final in an unrivaled format, and Pandan and Gamestah for also Shoutcasting the semi's and Grand final.
