NetGameMedia announces Clansport.com & the ClanSport TF2 Masters Series
Heals, 19-Jul-09 »
ClanSport & NetGameMedia Pty Ltd today announced the launch of www.clansport.com and the ClanSport TF2 Master Series, the first major tournament series aimed firmly at progressing online gaming as a viable spectator sport in Australia. The ClanSport TF2 Masters is not only set to follow on from other major sponsored PC FPS gaming tournaments like the Battlefield 2 Masters, the netGameRadio Invitational and the Foosh Sixes Invitational but steer Australian competitive gaming in a fresh new direction.
Julian Healey, spokesman for ClanSport has previously stated that he believes ClanSport is the first crucial step toward creating a pro-gaming circuit in Australia. “The ClanSport TF2 Masters Series will include three separate gaming tournaments over the course of next 9 months in an effort to provide competitive stability for gamers. It’s our hope that the promise of multiple sponsored tournaments, built up over time, will not only give teams and gaming portals time to grow their brands but also allow for cutting-edge online media organisations like netGameRadio and Auscast to start building legitimate spectator interesting in top-tier eSports, most of which is played online – well away from photographers and TV cameras.
As more and more people pick up keyboards and Xbox controllers instead of a cricket bats, eSports will inevitably take its place alongside everyday sports like Football, Tennis & Golf. We intend on being part of the push that makes that happen.”
Cyber Snipa, one of Australia’s leading manufacturers of award winning gaming gear are sponsoring the first ClanSport TF2 Masters tournament alongside GamesWarehouse.com.au, iPGN (iPrimus Gaming Network) and Bench Studios. NetGameMedia Pty Ltd, ClanSport’s parent company are also contributing $1500 cash to the 3-part series. The first tournament prize pool currently stands at over $1100, with a further $1000 worth of prizes being earmarked for spectator competitions and on-air giveaways.
The first tournament will begin August 2nd, with games set to be played at 8:00pm & 9:30pm AEST every Sunday in August. Match coverage is being broadcast live over the web by both netGameRadio & Auscast, featuring expert commentary, player interviews and analysis. Player profiles, team exposés, articles and statistics will all be published regularly at www.clansport.com as the tournament progresses. For those with Team Fortress 2, Source TV servers will also be available for people to visually spectate all tournament matches; details will be available through the ClanSport website. Tandem tipping and video making competitions have also been announced.
